Koh Chang in Thailand.

Okay, also doch zum Strand.

Well, have fun!

Koh Chang in Thailand. An exotic idyll in Asia. Besides Phuket & Co., more and more tourists are coming to Koh Chang. Great idea, because so far it is civilized enough to feel good, but still lonely enough not to feel like you are in Mallorca for the high season.

But if you do not like to be on the beach every day, then there are still a few ways to use the time on Koh Chang. Here are some suggestions:

  • Take advantage of jet lag and go to the beach in the morning. Okay, so the beach. But in the morning this is empty and you can watch the fishermen or refresh yourself in the waves. Definitely do it!
  • Rent a motorcycle and explore the island. Scooters can be rented everywhere and usually they are not expensive either. Check the brakes before driving. We had an awkward situation due to bad brakes. But if the part works reasonably well: Nothing like off to the slopes and discover new beaches completely independently 🙂
  • Go for Thai food! Yes, for every die-hard European, Asian food is a strange, because it does not taste like it does here in the restaurant. No, it tastes much better! So, just be brave and try it at the local restaurants, even if your hotel / bungalow perhaps has European food. Our absolute favorite restaurant is at the end of the street at Lonely Beach right on the sea! Incredibly delicious food overlooking the ocean. But don’t eat salads and stuff like that. But you already know that anyway!
  • And of course: lying on the beach. Because despite all the great activities, you just have to enjoy it. Beware, if a stretch of beach is completely empty, but the rest is totally full: At the place there are probably jellyfish in the water. Believe me, the other people are not voluntarily at these temperatures so close to each other 😀

Koh Chang Elephants

EDIT: In a previous article, I clearly recommended elephant riding on Koh Chang. Because I also made an elephant tour out of ignorance. While choosing the provider, we made sure that it is certified, but knew nothing about the brutal training of the animals.
I’m smarter now. Elephant riding is great fun, but not for the elephant. Until they are ready to accept you on their backs, they have to endure a tough workout. No matter how humanely they are treated after that, unfortunately it’s never the education. And that is why I do not recommend elephant riding in any case!
Elephants are just beautiful animals and I therefore recommend you to go to a camp, which, for example, takes care of captive elephants and gives them a nice retirement or tries to get used to a normal life again. In the north of Thailand (unfortunately not just around the corner from Koh Chang) you will find such facilities. But maybe there is also one nearby or on Koh Chang. You certainly will not ride the elephant. But you can work with him and get very close. And that is at least as nice 🙂

Well, have fun! I hope I could inspire you a little
