Venedig my love – Part 1: Guidecca

Vor 2 Jahren war ich mit meiner Mama in Venedig. Eine Stadt, die ich schon ewig sehen wollte. Und es war ein wunderbarer Kurzurlaub. Und eigentlich wollte ich hier alles in einen Post packen, aber der wird wieder übertrieben lang. Also habe ich mich entschieden mal wieder eine hundertteilige Reihe zu machen. Gott, warum kann ich mich nur nicht kurzfassen? 😀

Guidecca is the shit!

Wenn man am Ende der Sommerferien nach Venedig will und zur gleichen Zeit die traditionelle Regatta und zusätzlich kurz vorher noch die Viennale ist, dann wird es schwer ein bezahlbares Hotel zu finden. Unsere Lösung war am Ende das Sunny Terrace Hostel auf Guidecca.
Guidecca ist der Teil Venedigs, der auf der anderen Seite des riesigen Canals liegt (nicht Canale Grande – oder heißt das ganze Ding so?), durch das die ganzen Kreuzfahrtschiffe durchfahren. Man kommt nur mit dem Vaporetti (Wassertaxi) hin.
Der Vorteil: Es ist super ruhig, das Hostel ist günstiger und außerdem wirbeln nicht überall Touristen rum.
Der Nachteil: Man muss jeden Tag das Vaporetti nehmen und das geht ganz schön ins Geld. Diese blöden Taxis sind leider unverschämt teuer.

Das Sunny Terrace Hostel ist nicht besonders luxuriös, aber sauber und es hält, was es verspricht: Es hat eine Dachterrasse mit einem wunderbaren Blick zur Hauptinsel.

Außerdem kann man in einem Cafe gleich um die Ecke günstig und typisch italienisch frühstücken. Wenn man sagt, dass man im Sunny Terrace Hostel wohnt – Visitenkarte geben lassen – dann bekommt man Rabatt auf das Frühstück. Wie viel habe ich vergessen, was auch daran liegt, dass die nette Besitzerin den Prozentsatz sehr pi mal Daumen überschlägt. Also zahlt man immer unterschiedlich, aber nie zu viel. Fragt einfach bei der Rezeption im Sunny Terrace nach 🙂

Außerdem kann ich den Asiaten an der Promenade von Guidecca empfehlen. Nein, nicht luxuriös, aber leckeres und vor allem günstiges Essen. Und einen unschlagbaren Aperol Sprizz kann man auch in der Abendsonne genießen. Wenn ihr es luxuriöser wollt, gibt es natürlich eine Reihe sehr teurer und edler Restaurants entlang der Promenade 🙂

Ja, das war’s auch schon wieder zu Guidecca. Ansonsten kann man natürlich ein bisschen rumwandern, die Skulpturen vorm 5* Hotel begutachten und ansonsten das Geld für das Vaporetti bezahlen und sich tagsüber in den Trubel von Venedig schmeißen.

Noch ein Tipp zum Schluss: Nehmt euch Plastikbecher und eine oder 2 Flaschen Sekt/Wein oder was auch immer ihr mögt mit, setzt euch auf einen der Stühle auf dem Dach und genießt den Ausblick, die Ruhe und den Sonnenuntergang. Und anschließend die Lichter von Venedig und das Rauschen des Meeres.

Two years ago I’ve been to Venice with my mom. A city I wanted to see for ages. And it was a wonderful trip. I planned to write everything in just one post, but then I realized, that it will be super extremely long and so I decided to make another onehundredpieces long story 😀

Guidecca is the shit!

If you plan to go to Venice at the end of the summer holidays and at the same time, when the traditional regatta is and also the Viennale a short time before, than you may have a problem finding cheap hotels at the main island of Venice. So our solution was the smaller island Guidecca.

Guidecca is this part of Venice, on the other side of the grand river – and I don’t mean the Canale Grande – where all the cruise ships pass through. You can only reach Guidecca with the Vaporetti (the water taxi).

The advantage: It is so quiet, the hostel is cheap and there are not tourists everywhere.

The disadvantage: You have to take the Vaporetti every time you want to go to big Venice and this is ridiculously expensive.

Sunny Terrace Hostel

The Sunny Terrace Hostel is not really luxury, but it is clean and it does, what it says on the tin: it has a big deck with a wonderful view to Venice. And you can have breakfast at a small café around the corner, where you get a discount, when you are living at Sunny Terrace. I don’t know how much. That’s because the nice coffeelady charges you, whatever she wants, but never too much. Just ask at the counter of the Sunny Terrace for a business card and how much the discount is.

Despite from that I can recommend the Asian Restaurant at the water. No, it is also not luxury, but the food is tasty and cheap – and this is rare in Venice. Plus: you can have an extremely tasty Aperol Sprizz directly on the water in the sunset. And if you like more luxury: there are plenty of expensive and super chic restaurants along the water.

Yes, this is all for Guidecca. Of course, you can walk around the small island and look at the sculptures at the 5* Hotel and then just pay the money for the Vaporetti and enjoy beautiful Venice.

Oh, one more tip in the end: Take some plastic cups and a bottle of champagne or wine with you, take some chairs on the terrace and enjoy the quietness and the beautiful sunset over Venice and the lights in the dark.
