  • Italien. Portrait eines fremden Landes. Für alle, die es lieber politisch mögen. (Nicht selbst gelesen)
  • Meine sehr italienische Familie.

  • Briefe an Julia.

Alternativ Aperol Spritz
  • Antipasti: Gefüllte Paprika, getrocknete Tomaten, eingelegte Oliven

How to Go to Italy without Leaving the House

If we can’t go to Italy, we’ll bring Italy to us. Even though the borders are slowly opening up again, here are a few tips on how not to cross them at all.

Italy to read

  • The Thief Lord is set in Venice and is one of the books you must have read as a child. But even as an adult the book has its charms.
  • Italy. Portrait of a foreign country. For those who like it more political. (Not read by myself)
  • My very Italian family. The name is program (Not read by myself)
  • Everything about South Tyrol. An insight into a very special region (Not read by myself)
  • Instructions for Rome: As I have already read Instructions for Indochina with great enthusiasm, I can only imagine good things: An insight into the history, everyday life and language of the Romans. With a wink and factual knowledge (Not read by myself)
  • Illumniati. Tension, murder, Rome.

Italy to listen to

  • Ecos by Pablo Alborán
  • La Bambola by Patty Pravo
  • Perdono by Tiziano Ferro
  • La Vita Com’é by Max Gazzé
  • Via con me by Paolo Conte

And this list would not be complete without Eros Ramazotti!

Not complete, of course. Do you have more songs for me that simply say „Italy“?

Italy to see

  • Don Camillo and Peppone a sweet, ancient series, also available in book form.
  • Letters to Julia. A romantic film with the right amount of kitsch and picturesque Italian landscapes.
  • Eat Pray Love. Only part of it takes place in Rome, but I connect this part with the film. Maybe because it conveys the Italian attitude towards life so well.
  • Commissioner Brunetti. The quality of Donna Leon’s crime series is debatable. But at least it is set in the winding streets of Venice. Reason enough to swap the Tatort for this.

Italy to taste

Where do I even start? I probably eat more Italian than any other dish.
A little menu idea:

  • Campari Orange as an aperitif. It’s not really served like this in Italy, but in my opinion it’s pure Italy. Alternative Aperol Spritz
  • Antipasti: Stuffed peppers, dried tomatoes, pickled olives
  • A fine minestrone as starter and as proof how good Italian soup tastes
  • Spaghetti with one of the infinite pasta sauces. How about salmon, lemon and cream? Or seafood. Or maybe a classic arrabiata sauce?
  • For dessert and to top it off, a tiramisu
What is typical Italy for you?
